PARTNERSHIP’S UNSUNG HEROES

Jim and Maureen Plater have been providing first aid training courses on behalf of the Partnership for a number of years in their calm, conscientious manner and last year trained over 1,000 people. The training is offered to any member of the public or organisation. Last year a number of courses were provided for youngsters with particular learning needs. The work requires a lot of patience and understanding, as many of these young people have tremendous problems to overcome in their every day lives and awarding them a certificate and qualification at the end of the course, certainly improves their self esteem.

A recent course was for ladies at the Sikh community centre in Bedford and the chairman, Tarsam Paul, said “Jim and Maureen were magnificent and their training was of great help to our ladies”. If first aid training is not enough, Jim is also a qualified skid car instructor and assists Andy Wesley with our driver programme. If anyone would like any information about first aid training then please contact our office.

IT DEFINITELY IS A SMALL WORLD
The Sheriff of Clinton County, in Ohio USA, had a bright idea that he would like to start a community programme that could make grants to start up projects in his area. He was surfing the net and came across the Bedfordshire Police Partnership Trust and to his surprise the Trust Administrator was one Brian Prickett, the same name as himself. He made contact and has been given details of our Partnership and is planning something similar in Clinton County.

CONGRATULATIONS TO Xers MOTOCROSS PROJECT

Last year the Partnership supported the launch of Xers, a Motocross Project in Bedford, which is aimed at helping youngsters with a difficult background or school problems, to gain training based around motor cycles, but also involves computer skills and day to day inter-personal relationships.

The scheme has been a huge success and a new pilot course has started in Luton.

The Partnership has continued to support this worthy project.

PARTNERSHIP HELPLINE

The informal Partnership Helpline continues to prove positive, judging by the number of calls we get concerning police related matters. Please remember if there is something of which you are not certain relating to the police or the Partnership just give one of us a call on the numbers shown on our Contact page.
