COMMUNITY PROJECTS
Community Projects
Partnership funding is available for any initiative which improves the quality of life to members of our communities. We support various community schemes - some being so successful that they have spread to other places in our county. More cheque presentations

Below is a selection of some of our most successful projects which have made a positive impact on the more vulnerable members of our community.

Message in a Bottle - Emergency Information Scheme

The Partnership has joined forces with Biggleswade and Sandy Lions Club to promote the above scheme, which is a simple but very effective idea, specially designed for the elderly or vulnerable.
The scheme was launched on the 16th May 2001 and the Partnership hopes that it will work with other organisations to introduce similar schemes in other parts of the county.

Bottle stored in the fridge

A whole range of information such as relatives' details, medical information and any special needs are kept in a bottle in the 'fridge. The idea being that if someone is taken ill, neighbours, doctors or ambulance staff have readily available vital information about the individual.

Further information can be obtained from Roger Wolburn on 01462 814967.

Simple Ideas are Often the Best! - It's a 'Granny Boot'
You might not have heard of it but the granny boot is proving to be very popular.
The boot, which is a wooden wedge on a handle is initially intended for elderly or vulnerable people to wedge behind their front door to stop unwanted intruders.

It is simple and it works. We have had requests to supply the boot to many sections of the community and they are now available in partnership with Homewatch groups and District Councils.

Granny Boot in action!
If you know of anyone one would benefit from a 'Granny Boot', contact Janet Heinsen on 01234 842619.

  Check That Caller!

We all suffer from unwanted callers at the door but sometimes these people upset the elderly and on occasions they are criminals posing as bogus officials.
To try and help, the Partnership has produced 'Check That Caller' door stickers. They have been so popular we have just had to order another 5,000!

If you know anyone who would benefit from these please contact Janet Heinsen on 01234 842619 and we will send them some.

  It's Good to Talk ....
But it is not easy if your mobile is stolen!

With the increase in theft of mobile phones and subsequent unauthorised use particularly involving young people, the Partnership in conjunction with Bedfordshire Police, Luton Borough Council and Beds County Council have supplied 20,000 mobile phone security packs to schools and young people throughout the county. The packs make the phone less attractive to the would-be thief and almost impossible to use. With the daily increase in the number of mobile phones being supplied, it is hoped that this initiative will reduce this nuisance crime and prevent parents getting unwanted bills.

The Packs will be available throughout schools, youthclubs and other young people's organisations.

David Graham - The pop star with a drugs message

The drugs awareness pop show
For the second year in succession, the Partnership supported David Grahams return to Bedfordshire and in a schools initiative for middle schools in the county, he performed his show to 12,000 young people.

Competition winner

David's performances, including songs and competitions, involves interaction with the audience. The theme is drugs and crime and the importance of staying positive by rejecting drugs and a related life of crime. Part of the show included a competition to devise an anti-drugs slogan with a prize of a flight over Bedfordshire in a light aircraft.
The four winners had a great day out at Cranfield Airport.

Anti-Bullying Man Backed By Schools Demand

The Worlds Strongest Man Back in the County
Last year the Partnership supported the Dave Gauder Roadshow touring Luton Junior Schools. It was such a success that it is now intended to repeat it at schools throughout the county.

BIG DAVE
Dave Gauder

Dave Gauder is the holder of the Worlds Strongest man record. He was bullied as a child and talks frankly about his days as a frightened schoolboy and has also developed an anti-drugs theme. The children were clearly impressed by Dave and asked him lots of questions. He also made an impact on the teachers, who have asked for his return, believing that he really does get his message across.

All of the projects are linked with the local Police Officer and this helps to break down barriers particularly between young people in the community and the police.
Without the support of the business community joining us as partners, none of the above projects could happen. If your business would like to give something back to your community - why not become a partner. For full information on becoming a partner take a look at the Partners section of this site.
And don't forget that the Partnership does operate a form of Helpline. If you would like an informal chat about becoming a partner, or if you would like to make an application for funding of a community project then please use one of the telephone numbers below.
